Marshall Square Park
West Chester's oldest park (dating to 1848), on the borough's highest point, with two separate play areas since a dedicated younger-kids play set and swing set went in for the under-5 crowd — the earlier climbing structure was built with bigger kids in mind. Some of the original 19th-century trees planted by the park's founding botanists are still standing, so there's real shade to work with. Restrooms and a gazebo are on site.

Know before you go
There are two separate play areas: a 2017 climbing structure with slides built for older kids, and a newer, lower-to-the-ground play set and accessible swing set added specifically for kids under 5 (parents had flagged the original platforms as too high for toddlers). The Friends of Marshall Square Park also added a low fence along the play corner facing the busy N. Matlack and Marshall St intersection, though the play area overall isn't described as fully enclosed. A Civil War monument and a chainsaw-carved gnome sculpture give little kids something to point at on the walk in.
