Rainy Day Activities in Chester County, PA
Updated 2026-05-24 · Kid Friendly Chesco editors
The forecast turned. The park is out. The kids are already climbing the walls and it's 9:15am. Chester County is actually reasonably well-equipped for this scenario — if you know where to look. There's no children's museum here (the Please Touch is in Philly and worth the trip if you haven't been), but there are solid local options that go well beyond sitting on your couch. Here's the short list.
01American Helicopter MuseumWest Chester·indoor
American Helicopter Museum
One of the most underrated kid destinations in Chester County. Over 35 helicopters, and several that kids can actually climb into and sit in the cockpit — which is the part they'll talk about for weeks. The collection spans military, rescue, and experimental aircraft. Adults who aren't plane people will still enjoy it. Toddlers who love vehicles will lose their minds.
- Parking
- Free lot on site. Easy.
- Crowds
- Never feels crowded. Weekday afternoons are particularly relaxed. A genuinely uncrowded museum experience, which is increasingly rare.
- Hours
- Thu–Sat 10a–5p, Sun 12p–5p. Closed Mon–Wed and major holidays. Last admission 4p.
- Good for
- Toddlers, Preschool, Kids, Tweens, Teens
02BounceUExton·indoor
BounceU (Exton)
The structure here is better than most bounce facilities — sessions are capacity-capped so it doesn't turn into a mosh pit, and the Preschool Playdate sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings are specifically for under-5s, which means no big kids flying past your toddler. Check the calendar before you go; open bounce times aren't daily.
- Parking
- Large lot in the Springdale Drive commercial area. Easy.
- Crowds
- Preschool Playdate sessions fill up — book online in advance. Weekend open bounce is busier and more mixed-age. Morning sessions are calmer than afternoon.
- Hours
- Open bounce times vary — check website calendar. Preschool Playdate: Tue–Wed 10a–noon. General open bounce: select afternoons and weekends.
- Good for
- Toddlers, Preschool, Kids
Exton·indoor
Chester County Library (Exton)
Underrated as a parent resource. The children's section is large, well-stocked, and genuinely engaging — not just books but puzzles, activity kits, and a comfortable reading area. Story time programs fill up fast; register online. Free, air-conditioned, and your kids leave with something to read. Hard to argue with.
- Parking
- Large lot in the Exton Square area. Easy.
- Crowds
- Story time sessions are packed — show up 10 minutes early. The rest of the time it's relaxed.
- Hours
- Mon–Thu 9a–9p, Fri–Sat 9a–5p, Sun 12p–5p

Malvern·indoor
Grand Slam USA (Malvern)
30,000 square feet of everything under one roof — glow-in-the-dark pirate mini golf, laser tag, arcade games, Nerf battle arena, bounce houses, ninja obstacle course, and batting cages. Better for kids 5 and up who can handle the sensory load. If it's raining and you need to burn three hours, this is your answer.
- Parking
- Parking on site in Malvern. Easy.
- Crowds
- Weekends are busy — arrive at opening if you want the mini golf without a long wait. Weekday afternoons are notably calmer and often less crowded for the same experience.

Kind of a Big Deal
Chester County's best dedicated indoor play space for the under-5 crowd. Soft play structures, a dedicated baby/crawler area, and a space that's actually designed for little kids — not just a church gym with some mats. Open play sessions fill up, so check the schedule and book ahead.
- Parking
- Strip plaza lot. Easy.
- Crowds
- Book open play sessions in advance — they cap attendance. Morning sessions sell out faster than afternoon.

Round1 Bowling & Amusement (Exton)
Round1 is a Japanese-style entertainment chain that somehow fits bowling, a massive arcade, billiards, ping pong, karaoke, and darts into a mall space. The daytime experience with kids is genuinely fun — the arcade selection is excellent, with a mix of classic games and the crane/prize games kids fixate on. Skip the evening visits; after 8pm the crowd shifts.
- Parking
- Exton Square Mall parking. Free and plentiful.
- Crowds
- Afternoon weekdays are the sweet spot for families — the mall crowd is lighter and the lanes are open. Weekend evenings get loud and adult-leaning. Before 5pm on a Saturday is fine.
- Hours
- Daily 10a–2a (family-friendly earlier in the day; evening skews older)
- Good for
- Kids, Tweens, Teens
