Things to Do with Kids in Chester County, PA

Updated 2026-05-24 · Kid Friendly Chesco editors

Chester County, PA is one of the more underrated spots in the Philadelphia suburbs for families. It has Longwood Gardens, a legitimate farm trail, a network of free county parks, enough good restaurants that feeding everyone isn't a crisis, and a geography that rewards getting outside. This page is our attempt at an honest master list — broken into what's worth it by situation, not just a dump of every place in the county.

The list

One of the most underrated kid destinations in Chester County. Over 35 helicopters, and several that kids can actually climb into and sit in the cockpit — which is the part they'll talk about for weeks. The collection spans military, rescue, and experimental aircraft. Adults who aren't plane people will still enjoy it. Toddlers who love vehicles will lose their minds.

This is the museum you bring kids to when you want them to actually care about what's on the walls. N.C. Wyeth illustrated Treasure Island, Robin Hood, and dozens of other children's classics — the originals are here, and kids who recognize them from their bookshelves have a genuine reaction. Andrew and Jamie Wyeth round out the collection. The building itself is beautiful, right on the Brandywine Creek.

The living history demonstrations — blacksmithing, charcoal-making, 18th-century iron moulding — give kids something to watch and engage with rather than just reading plaques. 848 acres of grounds to explore after. Best for kids 6+ who can do the Junior Ranger booklet; younger kids will still enjoy the grounds and animals on site.

The combination of outdoor mini golf and ice cream at the end is a genuinely perfect kid outing.
