Roots Cafe
Roots is worth the squeeze — literally. The space is small, so a full-sized stroller makes things awkward. Fold it and wear the baby or bring a compact. The kids burger is as good as people say, the coffee is excellent, and the vibe is warm rather than precious.

Roots is a small, well-loved spot on Gay Street that does brunch and lunch daily with dinner a few nights a week. The menu skews toward elevated comfort food — grain bowls, creative eggs, solid sandwiches — and the kids options are real food rather than chicken fingers and fries (though the burger is a crowd-pleaser). For babies and crawlers the tight quarters are a genuine challenge; for walking toddlers and up it works fine.
